Another day, another quirky TWIABP release pulled from the shelf to talk about.
The World Is A Beautiful Place And I Am No Longer Afraid To Die - Gig Life - 2nd Press - 59/75 (Lathe Cut W/ Screened B-Side)
There isn't much between the presses of this one, save for the colour of the cover. The 1st press was /50 (ish) and the text and photographs were orange. They were also only available for tour, and sold out super quick. This press was made up for those who couldn't get to a show and sold through the Broken World Media store. They also went in minutes and I was at work. Thankfully, D from TWIABP and Broken World was nice enough to send me over a copy as an apology for messing up a previous order. This was some time ago, and the details are hazy but I'm sure what you need to know is all in there.
Back Cover // B-Side
Here you can see the label logo and the numbering. Another quirky little detail is the quarter fold sleeve (these are way nicer than standard 7'' sleeves for this kind of release in my opinion). With hindsight I can tell you that the design on the lathe cut is from the 2013 release 'Whenever, If Ever' cover art, but at the time I didn't have a clue what it was about.
Oddly enough, the song 'Gig Life' is also on that LP, but it's a world away from the humble (almost demo) sound that is present here. All truth be told, I prefer this version and definitely spin this more than it's LP counterpart. Normally a lathe cut would hinder the sound, but it completely works in the context of this song. The extra pops, the mono sound all make this recording more and more human. I grew very attached to the sound of this recording and the overall aesthetic of the record.
Finally, here is some information on the making of a lathe cut. They're a pretty nifty little release, and damn this thing fetches more money than it should at Discogs!
Thanks for reading!
